Nataliia Stets
is an acclaimed Ukrainian conductor and the Music Director of the National Philharmony of Ukraine.
Born and raised in Ukraine, Nataliia's early fascination with music led her to the National Music Academy of Ukraine. Here, she studied opera and symphony conducting under the mentorship of renowned maestros Ihor Palkin, Alin Vlasenko and Svyatoslav Lytvynenko. Her talent and dedication were evident from the outset, setting the stage for a remarkable career.
Nataliia’s professional journey began in Kyiv, where she served as the chief conductor of the Svitanok-Orchestra from 2015 to 2019. Her visionary leadership and compelling performances soon earned her a position with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra as conductor from 2019 until 2021. During this period, she collaborated with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, contributing significantly to the development of young musicians.
In 2017, Nataliia began working internationally, serving as assistant chief conductor of Oksana Lyniv at Opera Graz and assisting in major venues such as Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and the LvivMozArt Festival.
A pivotal moment in Nataliia’s career came in April 2023 when she won the 1st prize at the International Conducting Competition Citta di Brescia - Giancarlo Facchinetti in Italy. This prestigious award, focused on modern and contemporary repertoire, highlighted her talent and strong approach to contemporary music.
In 2022, Nataliia expanded her international presence by signing a contract with Theater Bielefeld in Germany as a conductor and musical assistant. Her talents were further recognized with a scholarship from the Sächsische Akademie der Künste in Dresden, which enabled her to delve deeper into her artistic pursuits.
The 2022/23 season marked a series of successful debuts for Nataliia. She conducted the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Elbland Philharmony Sachsen, and led performances at esteemed venues such as the Festival "Moers klingt 2022," Konzerthaus Berlin, Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, and the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. Notably, she premiered Bartok’s "Bluebeard’s Castle" in Ukraine and brought to life new opera works like "Ye.forever" by Victoriia Shynkarenko and "Obsessed" by Myroslav Volynskiy.
In her role as Music Director of the National Philharmony of Ukraine, Nataliia has continued to push artistic boundaries. In May 2024, she collaborated with the Goethe-Institut Ukraine, performing Schönberg's Suite op. 29 and “Pierrot lunaire” with the National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata. Her June 2024 performances of Vitaly Hubarenko’s mono-operas “Tenderness” and “Solitude” further showcased her versatility and commitment to contemporary music.
Nataliia’s influence extends beyond the concert hall. She conducted the internationally broadcasted concert celebrating Ukraine’s 30th Independence Day in August 2021, reaching a global audience and highlighting her role as a cultural ambassador for her country.
